Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has appointed Scott Krause, General Manager of the Heidel House Resort & Spa, Green Lake, to the Governor’s Council on Tourism. Krause currently serves on the WH&LA Board of Directors as the AH&LA Director. Also named to the council was Allyson Gommer, Chippewa Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Allyson and Scott aboard the Council,” said Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett. “Their years of experience and diverse backgrounds in the tourism industry will help guide the Council’s work in seeking innovative ways to market Wisconsin and grow the tourism economy.”

The Governor’s Council on Tourism is made up of 20 individuals appointed by the Governor, hailing from all corners of the state and from a variety of occupations within the state’s tourism industry. Tourism Council members provide strategic insight and advisement to the Department of Tourism to further its mission to grow the tourism economy in the state

Last year, Wisconsin’s travelers spent $12.3 billion making tourism big business for the state and is a significant contributor to Wisconsin’s high quality of life.  The full details are available for download in the 2010 Economic Impact of Traveler Spending on Wisconsin report.

BW-Milwaukee-AirportThe Wisconsin Innkeepers Association Board of Directors would like to invite lodging property owners and managers in the Milwaukee area to attend a special WIA Briefing Luncheon on Wednesday, September 23 at 11:30 a.m. at the Best Western Milwaukee Airport Hotel.

The meeting schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, 9/22 –

  • 3:00 pm  Legislative/ Tourism Committee – Hear about legislative & regulatory issues moving forward in Madison &/ or DC, members vote to determine WIA positions on each
  • 6:00 pm  Reception & Dinner – Charges apply for meals, please see RSVP form for details

Wednesday, 9/23 –

  • 8:00 am  Communications/ Marketing Committee
  • 9:15 am   Education/ Conference Committee
  • 10:30 am  Membership/ Services Committee
  • 11:30 am  Issues Luncheon – Secretary Kelli Trumble will provide a state tourism update, Tim Smith from the InterContinental Milwaukee will share local concerns & challenges, and Trisha Pugal (WIA) will share a brief overview of state legislative issue of concern

golf-wi-weekendGolf Wisconsin Weekend
We’re once again working with the Golf Course Owners of Wisconsin (GCOW) and the Dept of Tourism to promote Golf Wisconsin Weekend.  If you’re interested in signing up your property to participate this year, simply complete and return the participation form to the WIA office by April 3rd.  There is no cost for WIA lodging members to participate in this promotion.

WI ADR/ Occupancy Data Just Released
Also, WIA lodging property members should have received the latest occupancy and ADR data available from Smith Travel Research in yesterday’s INNsider e-newsletter.  If you didn’t see it, simply login to the members’ site and download it from the Info Center under the Members’ Resources tab.  (For help with your user name & password, please contact the WIA office.)
