Last week the Federal General Services Administration (GSA) released the new Federal Per Diem Rates for Lodging and Meals & Incidentals (M & I) that will go into effect Oct. 1, 2011 and expire Sept. 30, 2012. While the “CONUS” rate, for all communities & counties not specifically listed, stayed the same, there were numerous changes for those listed.

Last December the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission passed a new crib standard that will go into effect for lodging properties on December 28, 2012. More details, including a link to the new CPSC Crib Standard Poster can be found at the link below.

In our January 10 WH&LA Capitol Insider (“Key Federal Issues Update”), we announced primary changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) impacting lodging properties around the country. At the time, we also cautioned members about outside sources that try to outline a “one-size-fits-all” resolution to all the changes for all properties, due to the complexities of the changes.

Sunday afternoon Governor Scott Walker signed the State Budget into law (Wisconsin Act 40). Our state historically grapples with the budget until well after the July 1 intended implementation date, and it was reported that this was the earliest signing date since 1967.

Today’s Capitol Insider summarizes state budget highlights for Wisconsin’s lodging industry, including state tourism budget increase, tourism earmarks, film tax credits, Arts Board reduction in funding and shift to Tourism, increase in small claims limits, new state campgrounds, travel by UW employees and more.

This morning the State Bureau of Procurement publicly released an announcement affecting the State Lodging Contract program and all of the contracts entered into with lodging properties on a voluntary basis since July 1, 2008.
