The Wisconsin Hotel & Lodging Association named the recipients of its top three industry awards at the Wisconsin Lodging Conference recently in Wisconsin Dells. Congratulations to all the award winners!
Buck Drossart, The Pointe Hotel & Suites and Conference Center, Minocqua, was named co-Innkeeper of the Year. He has been General Manager of The Pointe Hotel & Suites for 26 years, which includes managing a 69-unit owners organization and serving as the liaison to its board of directors. He has also served as WH&LA Chairman of the Board in 2013, served on numerous committees and task forces and has been active in WH&LA’s legislative efforts. Drossart has also served as Board President of the Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce since 2011.
Scott Krause, Heidel House Resort & Spa, Green Lake, was named co-Innkeeper of the Year. He has served as General Manager of the Heidel House Resort & Spa for 11 years, overseeing the daily operations and long-term strategic plan for the 190-room resort. Serving on the Governor’s Council on Tourism as one of three delegates representing the lodging industry, he received the first Governor’s Tourism Service Excellence Award. Krause also served as WH&LA Chairman of the Board in 2008, Wisconsin Representative on the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Board of Directors, and was accepted onto the prestigious AH&LA Resort Committee. In addition to these achievements, he has been invaluable in developing legislator issue champions in state government.
Connie Barbian, IDM Hospitality Management, Madison, was named Corporate Champion of the Year. She is Vice President of New Business Development and Marketing for IDM Hospitality Management, a hotel development and management company specializing in independent boutique hotels. She also served as WH&LA Chairman in 2012 and was recently elected to serve on the Board of the Greater Madison Convention & Visitor Bureau. She continues to be actively engaged in many committees and legislative efforts that help WH&LA and the lodging industry.
Barry Chaet, Beck, Chaet, Bamberger & Polsky S.C., Milwaukee, was named Associate of the Year. He is President and Chair of the Hospitality Section & Labor and Employment Law Section of Beck, Chaet, Bamberger & Polsky S.C., where he focuses on the hospitality industry, including all types of lodging, restaurants, country clubs and more. Over the years, he has generously given his time to WH&LA members with legal questions, providing for the association a very valuable membership benefit. He currently serves on the WH&LA Board of Directors as well as the Board of Directors for the Greater Milwaukee Hotel & Lodging Association.
