Last year, Wisconsin’s travelers spent $12.3 billion making tourism big business for the state and is a significant contributor to Wisconsin’s high quality of life.  The full details are available for download in the 2010 Economic Impact of Traveler Spending on Wisconsin report.

Occupancy was up in Wisconsin in March 2011 compared to March 2010 and nearly all market areas saw an increase in occupancy, with the largest increase in Green Bay MSA. ADR was also up statewide compared to March 2010, with the largest increase in Appleton/Oshkosh MSA.

The April 15 WH&LA Capitol Insider provided a round-up review of several issues relevant to the lodging industry, including:

- Assembly Bill 41/Senate Bill 23, which will prohibit local or county ordinances that mandate employers to provide specified paid sick leave benefits that extend beyond the current state Family and Medical Leave requirements;

- Assembly Bill 73, which would extend the deadline for registration of a pier;

- State Budget Update after Joint Finance Committee budget hearings around the state; and

- ADA rule changes regarding the definition of a service animal

We’ve got 12 exceptional finalists in the 2012 Wisconsin Lodging Directory Cover Contest! Voting is open until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, and the contest winner will be announced at the Stay in Wisconsin blog on Tuesday, May 10!

All WH&LA member lodging properties are listed in the Wisconsin Lodging Directory each year as a free membership benefit. More than 200,000 copies were printed for 2011 and are available at locations like community libraries, interstate highway rest areas, Wisconsin State Fair, local chambers of commerce and convention and visitor bureaus and more!
